Map of Fuerteventura Hotels Map of Fuerteventura, Canaries
Fuerteventura or fuerte as locally known, has its capital, Puerto del Rosario located
centrally on its East coast. This typically Spanish town is developed around its
harbour and is mainly industrial although the harbour and promenade have recently
been developed. Visits include mainly shopping and the museum dedicated to former
exiled poet, Miguel de Unamuno.
Along the coast heading South is the pretty town of Caleta De Fusta also known as
castillo. Here you will find a variety of nightlife and restaurants and an 18 hole
golf course.
Caleta De Fusta is a good base to explore the rest of Fuerteventura by car, Caleta
offers a safe beach and water sports for families and couples alike.
Further south is the naturist resort of Playa Barca (Costa Calma) which is slow
paced and offers windsurfing from a fantastic beach and further down to Jandia at
the islands southern tip. Jandia offers more choice of entertainment and water sports
rolled into modern resort with fabulous beaches.
Nearby Morro Jable is a sleepy fishing village and has a quaint old Harbour to escape
the crowds, along with various bars and restaurants and some of the best beaches
in the Canaries.
Along the West Coast is La Pared which has some great restaurants, a practice golf
course and horse-riding school.
Inland you'll find the picturesque little town of Pajara and further on to Betancuria
a historical town set in a valley. Beyond is the former political town of La Oliva
and La Lajara with its windmills, local crafts and canary popular "wrestling area".
On the North tip is Corralejo the largest resort offering miles of beach dunes,
windsurfing and many leisure pursuits including jeep safari, biking, glass bottom
boats and boat trips to Lobo and Lanzarote. The whole dune area beyond town can
be viewed from the harbour and the main street where most bars and restaurants are
located. The diving and swimming are superb here, but care must be taken due to
the strong currents.
The Islote de Lobos reached by a short boat trip from Corralejo is a serene nature
reserve home to many unique plants and birds and has many historical features.
Fuerteventura is great for relaxing and escaping the crowds and is still a relatively
unspoilt part of the Canary Islands!

AMERICAN STAR SHIPWRECK IN FUERTEVENTURA
The remote beach of Playa de Garcey, on the west coast of Fuerteventura, is home
